Comprehensive School Counseling Services
Students can access school counseling services through an number of referral sources, such as self, parent, teacher, staff, or administrative referral.
Appropriate counseling referral reasons:
Students may be referred to the school counseling services if there are concerns or barriers to their success in any of the areas listed below:
- Behavioral difficulties
- Difficulty with emotional regulation
- Social/emotional concerns
- Peer/ interpersonal conflicts
- Academic concerns
- Attendance concerns
- Changes in the family or difficulties within the home
- Mental Health Needs
How to make a referral for counseling:
Individuals interested in receiving or referring others to counseling can contact the school counselor at any time. The counselors will discuss your concerns with you over the phone, by email or an in person meeting can be scheduled.

Additional school -based counseling services:
School counselors help children during their school day and provide brief counseling services for issues that might impact their school day. However, sometimes it is more appropriate for students to receive professional therapeutic support. For this reason, Wind Gap Middle School offers the following school based counseling services for students:


YESS!- stands for Your Emotional Strength Supported! This program is available at WGMS through St. Luke’s University Health Network. Students who are referred for the YESS program recieve weekly school-based therapy sessions to help them deal with mental health issues; such as anxiety, depression, emotional, behavioral or social issues, which can interfere with thier success in school or at home.
Valley Youth House- Valley Youth House’s School-Based Counseling Program provides WGMS with a licensed counselor one day per week to meet with students individually or in a small group setting. There is no cost tofamilies for this program and no insurance information is required. The program strives to meet youth “where they are” by tailoring services to the unique needs of the individual.
CIU20- The Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 provides WGMS with a school based mental health worker who is available to assist our students in a number of different ways, from individual appointments, small groups, assistance with school and in class support.
